... Based on recordings taken in the Mexican ecological reserve after which the album is also named, Bosque Vacío (Guillermo Guevara and Leena Lee) constantly evade expectation. Rather than the rustle and chirp of mountain and forest, “Subterránea” begins with the sound of human exhalation followed by the reverberant trickle of underground water, all dimly lit by low wattage electronics. This is an album of unexpected perspectives — the highlightbeing “Subacuática,” which eschews obvious tidal churn for a scuttling micro world of submerged beasties.
